We, the Llandeilo Community Pylon Action Group, are focused on preventing the installation by Green GEN/Bute Energy of 27-meter-high pylons throughout the Tywi Valley.
The pylon chain and the efforts to get cables undergrounded, should permission be given to build it, are at the heart of our campaign. However, we will be broadening the scope to incorporate a push against the industrialisation of not just Llandeilo and the surrounding communities, but the Tywi Valley as a whole. In addition to the damage caused by the pylons themselves, there is the pylon construction process, which will necessitate the construction of roads throughout the valley to move pylons and other infrastructure into place. The pylon chain will enable solar plants and windfarms and bring with it large battery storage parks like Llandyfaelog . The pylons are part of a bigger picture which will be hugely damaging for the Tywi Valley.
We recognise that there is a climate change crisis which needs to be addressed and that some forms of green energy and renewable options will play a part in that. However, that should not be a justification for covering Wales with wind and solar farms and pylons to produce energy that has no benefit for it or its communities. Nature, biodiversity and traditional ways of life are being threatened by this new industrial revolution.
The Tywi Valley is a landscape produced by millennia of human habitation and farming. Not only is it a striking landscape, it is also home to the Botanic Gardens, Aberglasney, Gelli Aur,Paxton’s Tower, Grongar Hill and a host of other historic and archaeological sites. It is visited by thousands of tourists who want to enjoy its beauty and who play a significant part in the economy of the area. We want to be able to voice positive arguments as to why the Tywi Valley should be protected and bring a new impetus to the campaign.
We will aim to provide factual, up to date information for the community about the development, information about meetings, key dates and more.
If you would like to join us and help us in opposing the pylon line and the destruction of the Twyi Valley, then please sign up to our mailing list or email us at contact@ourtywivalley.wales or use the Contact form.
